Food Bank Fund Raiser

Aloha Big Island Porsche Club Members!

The second half of our year has a busy schedule, starting with our Fund Raiser to benefit The Food Basket, Inc., which is Hawaii Island’s Food Bank Organization.

Last year we did our first fundraiser and raised an amazing $3,980 for their organization. They currently do not accept actual donations of food as in years past, and must rather purchase full case lots of food for distribution. Our donation last year helped feed almost 10,000 meals for very needy neighbors here on the Big Island.

Just as last year, we have received a $750 Grant from PCA National to go towards our fundraising efforts, so we are again doing a dollar-for-dollar match for the first $750 in donations to our club for this purpose. Note that these donations are not tax-deductible as we are a 501-C 7 organization.

If you wish to make a tax-deductible donation to The Food Basket, Inc., you may send us a check or bring it with you to the event that starts in Hilo at the Prince Kuhio Plaza, adjacent to the old Sears location.

Checks to the club can be made out to BIH PCA or Big Island Hawaii Porsche Club of America, address P.O. Box 6050, Kamuela, HI 96743. If you want to make your donation by credit card, call Harbor Gallery at 808-882-1510 or contact our Treasurer, Naomi Tanaka, at 808-557-0374.

We will start gathering at 10 AM in Hilo and plan to leave around 10:30, drive down through Hilo Town, and then proceed over the Saddle to Mauna Kea Park around 11:30 for a rest stop before continuing to Kona on the upper Mamalahoa Highway down to the Old Kona Airport about 1:00 for another rest stop and regathering before finishing with a cruise through Kona Town along Ali’i Drive, ending in front of the Royal Kona Resort around 2.

Last year a photographer from West Hawaii Today caught our procession and put us front page on the newspaper! This year we will have PSA radio spots as well! With almost 160 members strong on our speed bump in the middle of the Pacific, we have become quite visible especially to other small clubs across the country. We may not win awards for our small donations, compared to large clubs on the mainland that raise tens of thousands of dollars and take awards at the Porsche Parade, but we make a significant impact on our local population, where the needs have become even greater than last year.

Please donate generously. The club itself is donating an additional $1,000 from its Treasury towards this cause. We have been blessed and need to help our less fortunate neighbors.

Aloha and see you in about 3 weeks, Saturday August 14th in Hilo!
