Aloha, Spring has Sprung on the Big Island!
We will start our annual Spring Fling Driving Tour at the Waikoloa Village Shopping Center at 10 o’clock on Saturday, April 10th. After everyone signs the Liability Release forms and the new Communicable Disease Waiver, good for the next year, we will hold our Safety Meeting and go over the driving route, leaving at 10:30.
We will proceed downhill to the Queen K Highway on Waikoloa Road, turning North to the intersection of Kawaihawe Road and entering the town of Waimea. The first stop will be in Waimea at the back of Parker Ranch Shopping Center with bathrooms and the food court. 45 minutes for this leg, and a short 15 minute break.
We take off around 11:30 and head through Honoka’a along the Hamakua Coast until we reach Laupahoehoe, where we will turn Makai down to the Laupahoehoe Point Park, location of more bathrooms and beautiful scenery by the ocean and sea cliffs. Half-hour break here, take lots of pictures, stretch your legs and get ready for the final leg into Hilo, starting off around 1:00.
For the balance of the Hamakua Coast Tour, we divert on the way to Hilo taking the Old Mamalahoa Highway through the 4-mile Scenic Byway, the continue to Hilo town and our final destination, Don’s Grill at 485 Hinano Street, right near Big Island Candies where you can pick up some of their wonderful treats after lunch!
Don’s Grill has reserved their outdoor, enclosed dining area for us at 2 o’clock. THERE IS A LIMIT OF 20 PEOPLE FOR THIS ROOM. County regulations limit now 10 people per table, and there is room for 2 tables only.
YOU MUST SIGN UP AND RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR LUNCH. LIMIT 20 PEOPLE MAXIMUM. There is additional seating available in the interior of the restaurant, but tables are not reserved. There is no charge for this event, and lunch is on your own.
Please contact Mark Senft, Tour Director, with your reservation requests. his email is firstname.lastname@example.org and his phone number is 808-936-3338. Leave him a message and he will get back and confirm with you. He will put you on the list for Don’s Grill. You do not have to join us for lunch if you would rather eat elsewhere or just want to do the Driving Tour with us and go on your own.
Remember if you leave the official Tour route for any reason, you will not be covered under PCA’s $10 million liability policy which covers everyone in the club, over and above your required personal insurance.
See you on Saturday the 10th!
