After a successful Tour last month around the island, we learned a few things about our limitations at this time. We have with us snacks and water, but bathroom facilities, though they are supposed to be open, are not, at all of the County and State facilities. Some are, like at Mauna Kea Park in the Saddle. Restaurants are starting to open again on a limited basis for now, so there are food options opening up besides bringing your own.
With all of this in mind, we will have a shorter Tour this coming Saturday, June 13th, starting at the Waikoloa Shopping Center Parking lot at 8 a.m.
We will leave at 8:30 and proceed up to Daniel K Inouye Highway, the new Saddle Road, and stop at Mauna Kea Park for rest and photo ops. We should be there from about 9:30 until 10. At that time, we will proceed down the Old Saddle Road, twisting and turning through Waiki’i Ranch and continue to Waimea, assembling again in front of HPA around 11, regroup, and proceed on the Upper Road HWY 270 to Hawi and Kapa’au. We will stop at a place to be determined or proceed to Harbor Gallery in Kawaihae, where there are restroom facilities and Kohala Burger and Taco upstairs along with Anuenue Shave Ice. The final destination is Queens Shops, Waikoloa Resort, which has several restaurants open now. We should be there around 1 P.M. Lunch arrangements will depend on what is open.
Please contact our Event Chair Dr. Mark Senft, firstname.lastname@example.org, or myself, email@example.com, and confirm your attendance.
Two forms will have to be signed for you to participate, the COVID release form, a revised one-page document which is good for a year, and the standard Liability Insurance Release Form prior to participation. There is no fee for this Tour event.
Let’s go have some fun! Again, if anyone wants or needs a car, I have a few available! Helps if you drive a stick!
