Our September Driving Tour comes up on the second Saturday in September.
The Driving Tour will take a simple route, starting at 10:00 by meeting up in the Makai parking lot in Waikoloa. The plan is to leave around 10:30 after our safety meeting and signing of Insurance Waiver Releases. We will head Mauka up Waikoloa Road to the intersection of Mamalahoa Highway and turn left, East to Waimea Town. Once there we will gather behind the Parker Ranch Center, as usual, have a rest stop and coffee break before continuing East towards Hilo until we reach Mana Road outside of town, turning Mauka and enjoying the twists and turns of farm country and Ahualoa woods, until we reach the intersection with Tex Drive, In and cross the highway to Honoka’a Town. Once in town, we turn back towards Waipio Valley and make the 9-mile drive to the Valley Rim, where we take a break and enjoy the view. No going down the access road, please! After our break and stretch, we go back to Honoka’a Town, turning left up the hill by the hospital, and back to Waimea through the woods again before reaching our final destination, just a couple of miles before Waimea, at The Fish and the Hog, where we can enjoy a no-host lunch of lip-smacking ribs and all the fixin’s! There are plenty of other things on the menu, and they do not take reservations, so it is first-come, first-served.
Things have quieted down quite a bit now, with September being the slowest month of the tourist season, so we should be taken care of by the great local staff. They are anxious to see our pretty cars! The time frame for lunch should be starting around 1 o’clock. Your Tour Director, Mark Senft, is in charge and will lead the group. Please contact Mark to give him a headcount so we know how many people to expect. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org and his cell number is 808-936-3338.
Your President, Gunner Mench, will be back on the mainland for one more adventure with his Pink Pig 944 Turbo, planning to go to the track and 944 Fest at Nelson Ledges, Ohio, and also The Porsche Festival at Indianapolis before returning the Pink Pig to Nashville for the Winter. Enjoy the Woodland, Upcountry Retreat on Saturday, 9/11, a September to Remember.
